LIC made several amendments to claim settlements, life certificates, and other items during the second wave of COVID.
The decision was made after the nation was hit by the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Both policyholders will benefit from LIC's new settlement rules. It issued several of the claim settlement provisions designed to make the process easier and less complicated while still protecting its customers as the COVID-19 pandemic enters its second wave. LIC has allowed alternative proofs of death in place of Municipal death certificates to help speed up the resolution of death cases in the current situation where death occurred in a hospital.
India is experiencing the world's worst COVID-19 outbreak, with more than 3 lakh new cases being recorded every day. COVID-19 cases have been reported for two weeks, with over 4 lakh new cases reported daily over the weekend.
A video call mechanism has also been implemented by LIC for purchasing life certificates. Customers can now create and submit NEFT records online via a customer portal, allowing for quicker settlement.
Policyholders may also use the company's website, www.licindia.in, to buy insurance, pay maintenance premiums, apply for loans, repay loans and interest, and change addresses, among other items. The insurance's offices will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, effective May 10, 2021.
According to a statement, the insurer has also approved alternative proofs of death in lieu of local death certificates to help speed the settlement of death claims in the current situation where the death occurred in a hospital.
Other proofs of death include a death certificate, discharge summary/death summary issued by the government/ESI (employees' state insurance) /armed forces/corporate hospitals, and counter-signed by LIC class I officers or development officers of 10 years standing.
This, along with a cremation/burial certificate or an authentic identifying receipt issued by the appropriate authority, must be sent, according to the release. According to the statement, the municipal death certificate would still be needed in other circumstances.
Due to policyholders' difficulties sending documents required for claim settlement in the servicing division, the insurer now requires policyholders to send documents for due maturity/survival value claims to any LIC office within a reasonable distance.
Creation of life certificates is waived for annuities due up to October 31, 2021 for annuities with a return of capital option, besides accepting life certificates sent via email in other cases, according to the release.
In some cases, they will accept life certificates sent via email. LIC has also launched a video call service for obtaining life certificates.
